In many contemporary churches, two messages about comfort and healing circulate side by side. Both use tender language about God’s compassion, both appeal to people’s pain, and both promise restoration. Yet at their core, they are not the same message. The other is the modern idea of inner healing — a therapeutic spirituality that turns faith inward, treating Jesus as a facilitator of emotional repair.
